Goodyear City Council votes to select Maricopa Ambulance as ambulance service partner

The Goodyear City Council unanimously voted to select Maricopa Ambulance as its ambulance service partner during its regularly scheduled meeting on December 17 following a competitive bid process. Maricopa ambulances will begin responding to 9-1-1 calls in February 2019, pending final contract approval from the Arizona Department of Health Services.

“Maricopa Ambulance will bring a talented local leadership team and new ambulances to the City of Goodyear,” said Goodyear Fire Chief Paul Luizzi. “Most importantly, they have demonstrated a spirit of teamwork with the fire department and all community partners dedicated to protecting the health and safety of the community.”

The Council approved a four-year contract with Maricopa Ambulance with the option for three additional one-year renewals. During this contract term, the City of Goodyear Fire Department plans to continue their efforts to obtain a certificate of necessity (CON) to operate ambulance services through the fire department. During this transition, Maricopa Ambulance will work with the fire department to adjust its resources in the community once the fire department is operating ambulances under its own CON.

“We believe Maricopa Ambulance’s collaborative community approach makes us the best choice for communities seeking a true partner that will work with them to create a comprehensive EMS solution,” said Maricopa Ambulance Regional President Alan Smith. “We appreciate the trust that the Goodyear Fire Department and the Goodyear City Council have placed in us to protect their community. We look forward to bringing our advanced vehicles and technology and a customer-service focus to the people of Goodyear.”

Maricopa Ambulance will staff four advanced life support ambulances each with one paramedic and one EMT to respond to all 9-1-1 calls within the City of Goodyear. Maricopa Ambulance’s new American-made Ford ambulances will feature national-award-winning safety systems, including lane departure/collision avoidance technology and driver performance monitoring.

The Goodyear leadership team at Maricopa Ambulance are experienced local EMS professionals. Goodyear EMS Director Adam Stockton has more than a decade of experience in EMS in the Valley, including instrumental leadership in the startup of the Scottsdale 9-1-1 system with Maricopa Ambulance in February 2018. Stockton will manage day-to-day operations of the Goodyear EMS system with assistance from paramedic supervisors.

Today, Maricopa Ambulance currently operates more than 30 ambulances in the Valley and will be adding additional units in the coming months to serve new hospital and 9-1-1 contracts, including the Goodyear community.

Maricopa Ambulance currently provides 9-1-1 response to the City of Scottsdale and backup 9-1-1 response to the City of Surprise.
